Export Data from SQL Server to Excel Online through SSIS

Easily push SQL Server data to Excel Online using the CData SSIS Tasks for Excel Online.

SQL Server databases are commonly used to store enterprise records. It is often necessary to move this data to other locations. The CData SSIS Task for Excel Online allows you to easily transfer Excel Online data. In this article you will export data from SQL Server to Excel Online.

Add Source and Destination Components

To get started, add a new ADO.NET Source control and a new Excel Online Destination control to the data flow task.

Configure the ADO.NET Source

Follow the steps below to specify properties required to connect to the SQL Server instance.

  1. Open the ADO.NET Source and add a new connection. Enter your server and database information here.
  2. In the Data access mode menu, select "Table or view" and select the table or view to export into Excel Online.
  3. Close the ADO NET Source wizard and connect it to the destination component.

Create a New Connection Manager for Excel Online

You can connect to a workbook by providing authentication to Excel Online and then setting the following properties:

      • Workbook: Set this to the name or Id of the workbook.

If you want to view a list of information about the available workbooks, execute a query to the Workbooks view after you authenticate.

      • UseSandbox: Set this to true if you are connecting to a workbook in a sandbox account. Otherwise, leave this blank to connect to a production account.

You use the OAuth authentication standard to authenticate to Excel Online. See the Getting Started section in the help documentation for a guide. Getting Started also guides you through executing SQL to worksheets and ranges.

    Configure the Excel Online Destination

In the destination component Connection Manager, define mappings from the SQL Server source table into the Excel Online destination table.

    1. Double-click the Excel Online destination to open the destination component editor.
    2. In the Connection Managers tab, select the connection manager previously created.
  4. Specify the table into which the data will be exported: On the Component Properties tab, enter the table name in the TableName property, under the Custom Properties section. In this case, you will transfer Test_xlsx_Sheet1 records.
  5. On the Column Mappings tab, configure the mappings from the input columns to the destination columns.
  6. Run the Project

You can now run the project. After the SSIS Task has finished executing, data from your SQL table will be exported to the chosen table.
