Get the Report →Connect to Act CRM Data from PowerBuilder
This article demonstrates how to use the CData ODBC Driver for Act CRM to connect to Act CRM data and execute queries in PowerBuilder.
The CData ODBC Driver for Act CRM can be used from any platform or development technology that supports ODBC, including PowerBuilder. This article shows how to connect to Act CRM data and execute queries from the Database Painter and controls such as the DataWindow.
Connect to Act CRM as an ODBC Data Source
If you have not already, first specify connection properties in an ODBC DSN (data source name). This is the last step of the driver installation. You can use the Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator to create and configure ODBC DSNs.
The User and Password properties, under the Authentication section, must be set to valid Act! user credentials. In addition to the authentication values, see the following:
-
Connecting to Act! Premium
In addition to the authentication values, the URL to Act! is also required; for example https://eup1-iis-04.eu.hosted.act.com/.
Additionally, you must specify the ActDatabase you will connect to. This is found by going to the About Act! Premium menu of your account, at the top right of the page, in the ? menu. Use the Database Name in the window that appears.
-
Connecting to Act! Premium Cloud
To connect to your Act! Premium Cloud account, you also need to specify the ActCloudName property. This property is found in the URL address of the Cloud account; for example https://eup1-iis-04.eu.hosted.act.com/ActCloudName/.
Note that retrieving ActCRM metadata can be expensive. It is advised that you set the CacheMetadata property to store the metadata locally.
Create a Profile for the ODBC Driver for Act CRM
Follow the steps below to use the Database Painter tool to create a database profile based on an ODBC DSN (data source name) for Act CRM. In the Database Painter, you can use wizards and the UI to work with Act CRM data.
- In PowerBuilder, click Tools -> Database Painter.
- In the Objects window in the Database Painter, right-click the ODBC node and click New Profile.
- On the Connection tab, enter a name for the profile and select the Act CRM DSN in the Data Source menu.
- To view and modify a table, right-click a table and then click Edit Data -> Grid.
Using Act CRM Data with PowerBuilder Controls
You can use standard PowerBuilder objects to connect to ODBC data sources and execute queries. The following example shows how to retrieve Act CRM data into a DataWindow. You can add the following code to the open method:
SQLCA.DBMS = "ODBC"
SQLCA.DBParm = "ConnectString='DSN=CData ActCRM Source'"
CONNECT USING SQLCA;
dw_activities.SetTransObject(SQLCA);
dw_activities.Retrieve();
