Create Reports from Presto Data in Looker Studio



Use CData Connect Cloud to gain access to live Presto data and create custom reports in Looker Studio.

This article provides step-by-step instructions on establishing a virtual database for Presto and generating reports from Presto data within Looker Studio.

Configure Presto Connectivity for Looker Studio

Connectivity to Presto from Looker Studio is made possible through CData Connect Cloud. To work with Presto data from Looker Studio, we start by creating and configuring a Presto connection.

  1. Log into Connect Cloud, click Connections and click Add Connection
  2. Select "Presto" from the Add Connection panel
  3. Enter the necessary authentication properties to connect to Presto.

    Set the Server and Port connection properties to connect, in addition to any authentication properties that may be required.

    To enable TLS/SSL, set UseSSL to true.

    Authenticating with LDAP

    In order to authenticate with LDAP, set the following connection properties:

    • AuthScheme: Set this to LDAP.
    • User: The username being authenticated with in LDAP.
    • Password: The password associated with the User you are authenticating against LDAP with.

    Authenticating with Kerberos

    In order to authenticate with KERBEROS, set the following connection properties:

    • AuthScheme: Set this to KERBEROS.
    • KerberosKDC: The Kerberos Key Distribution Center (KDC) service used to authenticate the user.
    • KerberosRealm: The Kerberos Realm used to authenticate the user with.
    • KerberosSPN: The Service Principal Name for the Kerberos Domain Controller.
    • KerberosKeytabFile: The Keytab file containing your pairs of Kerberos principals and encrypted keys.
    • User: The user who is authenticating to Kerberos.
    • Password: The password used to authenticate to Kerberos.
  4. Click Create & Test
  5. Navigate to the Permissions tab in the Add Presto Connection page and update the User-based permissions.

With the connection configured, you are ready to connect to Presto data from Looker Studio.

Visualize Live Presto Data from Looker Studio

The steps below outline connecting to CData Connect Cloud from Looker Studio to create a new Presto data source and build a simple visualization from the data.

  1. Log into Looker Studio, click data sources, create a new data source, and choose CData Connect Cloud Connector.
  2. Click Authorize and allow access to your Google account.
  3. Click Authorize to authenticate with your CData Connect Cloud instance
  4. In the CData Connect Cloud Connector in Looker Studio select a Connection (e.g. Presto1) and click Next
  5. Select a Table (e.g. Customer) or use a Custom Query and click Connect to continue
  6. If needed, modify columns, click Create Report, and add the data source to the report.
  7. Select a visualization style and add it to the report.
  8. Select Dimensions and Measures to customize your visualization.
