How to connect to Quickbase Data from IntelliJ

Integrate connectivity to Quickbase data with wizards in IntelliJ.

The CData JDBC Driver for Quickbase enables you to access Quickbase as a JDBC data source, providing integration with rapid development tools in IDEs. This article shows how to use the data source configuration wizard to connect to Quickbase data in IntelliJ.

Create a JBDC Data Source for Quickbase

Follow the steps below to add the driver JAR and define connection properties required to connect to Quickbase data.

  1. In the Data Sources window, right-click and then click Add Data Source -> DB Data Source.
  2. In the Data Source Properties dialog that appears, the following properties are required:

    • JDBC Driver Files: Click the button next to this menu to add the JDBC Driver file cdata.jdbc.quickbase.jar, located in the installation directory.
    • JDBC Driver Class: In this menu, select cdata.jdbc.quickbase.QuickBaseDriver from the list.
    • Database URL: Enter the connection URL in the JDBC URL property. The URL must start with jdbc:quickbase: and includes connection properties separated with semicolons.

      User Authentication Method

To authenticate with user credentials, specify the following connection properties:

      1. Set the User and Password.
      2. If your application requires an ApplicationToken;, you must provide it otherwise an error will be thrown. You can find the ApplicationToken under SpecificApp > Settings > App management > App properties > Advanced settings > Security options > Manage Application Token.

      User Token Authentication

To authenticate with a user token, specify the following connection properties:

      1. Set UserToken and you are ready to connect. You can find the UserToken under Quick Base > My Preferences > My User Information > Manage User Tokens.

      Built-in Connection String Designer

For assistance in constructing the JDBC URL, use the connection string designer built into the Quickbase JDBC Driver. Either double-click the JAR file or execute the jar file from the command-line.

      java -jar cdata.jdbc.quickbase.jar

Fill in the connection properties and copy the connection string to the clipboard.

A typical JDBC URL is the following:

      jdbc:quickbase:User=user@domain.com;Password=password;Domain=myinstance.quickbase.com;ApplicationToken=bwkxrb5da2wn57bzfh9xn24
