Viewing HPCC Systems Data in RAD Studio Data Explorer

How to view HPCC Systems data in RAD Studio Data Explorer using the CData FireDAC Components for HPCC Systems.

Embarcadero RAD Studio provides a development environment for Delphi and C++Builder applications. With the CData FireDAC Components for HPCC Systems, you gain access to live HPCC Systems data within RAD Studio, abstracting the data into tables, views, and stored procedures that can be used to both retrieve HPCC Systems data. This article will walk through connecting to HPCC Systems using the Data Explorer.

Connecting to HPCC Systems Data Using Data Explorer

You can create a simple application for displaying HPCC Systems data by utilizing the CData FireDAC Components for HPCC Systems and a new VCL Forms Application:

  1. Open the Data Explorer in RAD Studio and expand FireDAC.
  2. Right-click on CData HPCC Systems Data Source and click Add New Connection.

  3. Name the connection.
  4. Fill in the necessary connection parameters and click OK.

    To connect, set the following connection properties: Set URL to the machine name or IP address of the server and the port the server is running on, for example, https://server:port. The User and Password are required to authenticate to the HPCC Systems cluster specified in the URL. Note that LDAP authentication is not currently supported by our ODBC driver.

    Set Version to the WsSQL Web server version. Note that if you have not already done so, you will need to install the WsSQL service on the HPCC Systems server. The WsSQL Web service is used to interact with the underlying HPCC Systems platform.

    Set Cluster to the target cluster.

  5. Back in the Data Explorer, expand the views for the connection.
  6. Create a new VCL Forms application and drag a view (for example: hpcc::test::orders) onto the form.

  7. Select the hpcc::test::ordersView object on the form and set the Active property to true.
  8. Right-click on the object, bind visually, and link everything (*) to a new control (TStringGrid).

  9. Arrange the TStringGrid on the form and run the application to see the hpcc::test::orders data.
