The Adobe Analytics ODBC Driver is a powerful tool that allows you to connect with live Adobe Analytics data, directly from any applications that support ODBC connectivity.

Access Adobe Analytics like you would a database - access Metrics, Users, Reports, Segments, etc. through a standard ODBC Driver interface.

Viewing Adobe Analytics Data in RAD Studio Data Explorer

How to view Adobe Analytics data in RAD Studio Data Explorer using the CData ODBC Driver for Adobe Analytics.

Embarcadero RAD Studio provides a development environment for Delphi and C++Builder applications. With the CData ODBC Driver for Adobe Analytics, you gain access to live Adobe Analytics data within RAD Studio, abstracting the data into tables, views, and stored procedures that can be used to both retrieve Adobe Analytics data. This article will walk through connecting to Adobe Analytics using the Data Explorer.

Configure a Connection to Adobe Analytics

If you have not already, first specify connection properties in an ODBC DSN (data source name). This is the last step of the driver installation. You can use the Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator to create and configure ODBC DSNs.

Adobe Analytics uses the OAuth authentication standard. To authenticate using OAuth, you will need to create an app to obtain the OAuthClientId, OAuthClientSecret, and CallbackURL connection properties. See the "Getting Started" section of the help documentation for a guide.

Retrieving GlobalCompanyId

GlobalCompanyId is a required connection property. If you do not know your Global Company ID, you can find it in the request URL for the users/me endpoint on the Swagger UI. After logging into the Swagger UI Url, expand the users endpoint and then click the GET users/me button. Click the Try it out and Execute buttons. Note your Global Company ID shown in the Request URL immediately preceding the users/me endpoint.

Retrieving Report Suite Id

Report Suite ID (RSID) is also a required connection property. In the Adobe Analytics UI, navigate to Admin -> Report Suites and you will get a list of your report suites along with their identifiers next to the name.

After setting the GlobalCompanyId, RSID and OAuth connection properties, you are ready to connect to Adobe Analytics.

Connecting to Adobe Analytics Data Using Data Explorer

You can create a simple application for displaying Adobe Analytics data by utilizing the CData FireDAC Components for Adobe Analytics and a new VCL Forms Application:

  1. Open the Data Explorer in RAD Studio and expand FireDAC.
  2. Right-click the ODBC Data Source node in the Data Explorer.
  3. Click Add New Connection.
  4. Enter a name for the connection.
  5. In the FireDAC Connection Editor that appears, set the DataSource property to the name of the ODBC DSN for Adobe Analytics.
  6. Back in the Data Explorer, expand the views for the connection.
  7. Create a new VCL Forms application and drag a view (for example: AdsReport) onto the form.

  8. Select the AdsReportView object on the form and set the Active property to true.
  9. Right-click on the object, bind visually, and link everything (*) to a new control (TStringGrid).

  10. Arrange the TStringGrid on the form and run the application to see the AdsReport data.
