Connect to Monday.com Data from Blazor Apps

Build ASP.NET Core Blazor C# apps that integrate with real-time Monday.com data using standard SQL.

Blazor is a framework for developing modern, client-side web UIs using .NET technology. Instead of coding in JavaScript, developers can use the familiar C# language and .NET libraries to build app UIs.

The CData ADO.NET Provider for Monday.com can be used with standard ADO.NET interfaces, such as LINQ and Entity Framework, to interact with live Monday.com data. Since Blazor supports .NET Core, developers can use CData ADO.NET Providers in Blazor apps. In this article, we will guide you to build a simple Blazor app that talks to Monday.com using standard SQL queries.

Install the CData ADO.NET Provider for Monday.com

CData ADO.NET Providers allow users to access Monday.com just like they would access SQL Server, using simple SQL queries.

Install the Monday.com ADO.NET Data Provider from the CData website or from NuGet. Search NuGet for "Monday.com ADO.NET Data Provider."

Create a Monday.com-Connected Blazor App

Start by creating a Blazor project that references the CData ADO.NET Provider for Monday.com

  1. Create a Blazor project on Visual Studio.
  2. From the Solution Explorer, right click Dependencies, then click Add Project Reference.
  3. In the Reference Manager, click the Browse button, and choose the .dll file of the installed ADO.NET Provider (e.g. System.Data.CData.Monday.dll, typically located at C:\Program Files\CData\CData ADO.NET Provider for Monday.com\lib etstandard2.0).

SELECT Monday.com Data from the Blazor App

  1. Open the Index.razor file from the Project page.
  2. In a MondayConnection object, set the connection string:

    You can connect to Monday.com using either API Token authentication or OAuth authentication.

    Connecting with an API Token

    Connect to Monday.com by specifying the APIToken. Set the AuthScheme to Token and obtain the APIToken as follows:

    • API tokens for admin users
      1. Log in to your Monday.com account and click on your avatar in the bottom left corner.
      2. Select Admin.
      3. Select "API" on the left side of the Admin page.
      4. Click the "Copy" button to copy the user's API token.
    • API tokens for non-admin users
      1. Click on your profile picture in the bottom left of your screen.
      2. Select "Developers"
      3. Click "Developer" and then "My Access Tokens" at the top.
      4. Select "Show" next to the API token, where you'll be able to copy it.

    Connecting with OAuth Authentication

    Alternatively, you can establish a connection using OAuth (refer to the OAuth section of the Help documentation).

    For example: APIToken=eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.yJ0aWQiOjE0MTc4NzIxMiwidWlkIjoyNzI3ODM3OSwiaWFkIjoiMjAyMi0wMS0yMFQxMDo0NjoxMy45NDFaIiwicGV;

  3. The code below creates a simple Blazor app for displaying Monday.com data, using standard SQL to query Monday.com just like SQL Server.

          @page "/"
          @using System.Data;
          @using System.Data.CData.Monday;

          <h1>Hello, world!</h1>

          Welcome to your Data app.

          <div class="row">
              <div class="col-12">

                  @using (MondayConnection connection = new MondayConnection(
                    "APIToken=eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.yJ0aWQiOjE0MTc4NzIxMiwidWlkIjoyNzI3ODM3OSwiaWFkIjoiMjAyMi0wMS0yMFQxMDo0NjoxMy45NDFaIiwicGV;"))
                  {
                      var sql = "SELECT Id, DueDate FROM Invoices WHERE Status = 'SENT'";
                      var results = new DataTable();

                      MondayDataAdapter dataAdapter = new MondayDataAdapter(sql, connection);
                      dataAdapter.Fill(results);

                      <table class="table table-bordered">
                          <thead class="thead-light">
                              <tr>
                                  @foreach (DataColumn item in results.Rows[0].Table.Columns)
                                  {
                                      <th scope="col">@item.ColumnName</th>
                                  }
                              </tr>
                          </thead>
                          <tbody>
                              @foreach (DataRow row in results.Rows)
                              {
                                  <tr>
                                      @foreach (var column in row.ItemArray)
                                      {
                                          <td>@column.ToString()</td>
                                      }
                                  </tr>
                              }
                          </tbody>
                      </table>
                  }
              </div>
          </div>

  4. Rebuild and run the project. The ADO.NET Provider renders Monday.com data as an HTML table in the Blazor app.

    At this point, you have a Monday.com-connected Blazor app, capable of working with live Monday.com data just like you would work with a SQL Server instance. Download a free, 30-day trial and start working with live Monday.com data in your Blazor apps today.
