This article demonstrates how to use the CData ODBC Driver for FinancialForce to connect to FinancialForce data and execute queries in PowerBuilder.

The CData ODBC Driver for FinancialForce can be used from any platform or development technology that supports ODBC, including Sybase PowerBuilder. This article shows how to connect to FinancialForce data and execute queries from the Database Painter and controls such as the DataWindow.

Create a Profile for the ODBC Driver for FinancialForce

Follow the steps below to use the Database Painter tool to create a database profile based on an ODBC DSN (data source name) for FinancialForce. In the Database Painter, you can use wizards and the UI to work with FinancialForce data.

  1. If you have not already done so, create an ODBC DSN for FinancialForce. The DSN contains the connection properties required to connect to FinancialForce data. You can use the Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator to create and configure DSNs. This is the last step of installing the driver. Required connection properties are the following:
    • User
    • Password
    • Security Token

There are several authentication methods available for connecting to FinancialForce: login credentials, SSO, and OAuth.

Authenticating with a Login and Token

Set the User and Password to your login credentials. Additionally, set the SecurityToken. By default, the SecurityToken is required, but you can make it optional by allowing a range of trusted IP addresses.

    To disable the security token:

    1. Log in to FinancialForce and enter "Network Access" in the Quick Find box in the setup section.
    2. Add your IP address to the list of trusted IP addresses.

    To obtain the security token:

    1. Open the personal information page on FinancialForce.com.
    2. Click the link to reset your security token. The token will be emailed to you.
    3. Specify the security token in the SecurityToken connection property or append it to the Password.

    Authenticating with OAuth

If you do not have access to the user name and password or do not want to require them, use the OAuth user consent flow. See the OAuth section in the Help for an authentication guide.

    Connecting to FinancialForce Sandbox Accounts

Set UseSandbox to true (false by default) to use a FinancialForce sandbox account. Ensure that you specify a sandbox user name in User.

See the help documentation for a guide to creating a FinancialForce DSN.
  2. In PowerBuilder, click Tools -> Database Painter.
  3. In the Objects window in the Database Painter, right-click the ODBC node and click New Profile.
  4. On the Connection tab, enter a name for the profile and select the FinancialForce DSN in the Data Source menu.
  5. To view and modify a table, right-click a table and then click Edit Data -> Grid.

Using FinancialForce Data with PowerBuilder Controls

You can use standard PowerBuilder objects to connect to ODBC data sources and execute queries. The following example shows how to retrieve FinancialForce data into a DataWindow. You can add the following code to the open method:

SQLCA.DBMS = "ODBC" SQLCA.DBParm = "ConnectString='DSN=CData FinancialForce Source'" CONNECT USING SQLCA; dw_account.SetTransObject(SQLCA); dw_account.Retrieve();
