CData Sync

Replicate Multiple DB2 Accounts

Replicate multiple DB2 accounts to one or many databases.

CData Sync for DB2 is a stand-alone application that provides solutions for a variety of replication scenarios such as replicating sandbox and production instances into your database. Both Sync for Windows and Sync for Java include a command-line interface (CLI) that makes it easy to manage multiple DB2 connections. In this article we show how to use the CLI to replicate multiple DB2 accounts.

Configure DB2 Connections

You can save connection and email notification settings in an XML configuration file. To replicate multiple DB2 accounts, use multiple configuration files. Below is an example configuration to replicate DB2 to SQLite:

Windows

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?> <CDataSync> <DatabaseType>SQLite</DatabaseType> <DatabaseProvider>System.Data.SQLite</DatabaseProvider> <ConnectionString>Server=10.0.1.2;Port=50000;User=admin;Password=admin;Database=test;</ConnectionString> <ReplicateAll>False</ReplicateAll> <NotificationUserName></NotificationUserName> <DatabaseConnectionString>Data Source=C:\my.db</DatabaseConnectionString> <TaskSchedulerStartTime>09:51</TaskSchedulerStartTime> <TaskSchedulerInterval>Never</TaskSchedulerInterval> </CDataSync>

Java

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?> <CDataSync> <DatabaseType>SQLite</DatabaseType> <DatabaseProvider>org.sqlite.JDBC</DatabaseProvider> <ConnectionString>Server=10.0.1.2;Port=50000;User=admin;Password=admin;Database=test;</ConnectionString> <ReplicateAll>False</ReplicateAll> <NotificationUserName></NotificationUserName> <DatabaseConnectionString>Data Source=C:\my.db</DatabaseConnectionString> </CDataSync>

Set the following properties to connect to DB2:

  • Server: Set this to the name of the server running DB2.
  • Port: Set this to the port the DB2 server is listening on.
  • Database: Set this to the name of the DB2 database.
  • User: Set this to the username of a user allowed to access the database.
  • Password: Set this to the password of a user allowed to access the database.

You will also need to install the corresponding DB2 driver:

  • Windows: Install the IBM Data Server Provider for .NET.

    On Windows, installing the IBM Data Server Provider is sufficient, as the installation registers it in the machine.config.

  • Java: Install the IBM Data Server Driver for JDBC.

    In the Java version, place the IBM Data Server Driver JAR in the www\WEB-INF\lib\ folder for this application.

Configure Queries for Each DB2 Instance

Sync enables you to control replication with standard SQL. The REPLICATE statement is a high-level command that caches and maintains a table in your database. You can define any SELECT query supported by the DB2 API. The statement below caches and incrementally updates a table of DB2 data:

REPLICATE Orders;

You can specify a file containing the replication queries you want to use to update a particular database. Separate replication statements with semicolons. The following options are useful if you are replicating multiple DB2 accounts into the same database:

You can use a different table prefix in the REPLICATE SELECT statement:

REPLICATE PROD_Orders SELECT * FROM Orders

Alternatively, you can use a different schema:

REPLICATE PROD.Orders SELECT * FROM Orders

Run Sync

After you have configured the connection strings and replication queries, you can run Sync with the following command-line options:

Windows

DB2Sync.exe -g MyProductionDB2Config.xml -f MyProductionDB2Sync.sql

Java

java -Xbootclasspath/p:c:\sqlitejdbc.jar -jar DB2Sync.jar -g MyProductionDB2Config.xml -f MyProductionDB2Sync.sql
