A PostgreSQL Interface for SAP Ariba Procurement Data



Use the Remoting features of the SAP Ariba Procurement JDBC Driver to create a PostgreSQL entry-point for data access.

There are a vast number of PostgreSQL clients available on the Internet. From standard Drivers to BI and Analytics tools, PostgreSQL is a popular interface for data access. Using our JDBC Drivers, you can now create PostgreSQL entry-points that you can connect to from any standard client.

To access SAP Ariba Procurement data as a PostgreSQL database, use the CData JDBC Driver for SAP Ariba Procurement and a JDBC foreign data wrapper (FDW). In this article, we compile the FDW, install it, and query SAP Ariba Procurement data from PostgreSQL Server.

Connect to SAP Ariba Procurement Data as a JDBC Data Source

To connect to SAP Ariba Procurement as a JDBC data source, you will need the following:

  • Driver JAR path: The JAR is located in the lib subfolder of the installation directory.
  • Driver class: cdata.jdbc.saparibaprocurement.SAPAribaProcurementDriver

  • JDBC URL: The URL must start with "jdbc:saparibaprocurement:" and can include any of the connection properties in name-value pairs separated with semicolons.

    In order to connect with SAP Ariba Procurement, set the following:

    • ANID: Your Ariba Network ID.
    • ANID: Specify which API you would like the provider to retrieve SAP Ariba data from. Select the Buyer or Supplier API based on your business role (possible values are PurchaseOrdersBuyerAPIV1 or PurchaseOrdersSupplierAPIV1).
    • Environment: Indicate whether you are connecting to a test or production environment (possible values are TEST or PRODUCTION).

    Authenticating with OAuth

    After setting connection properties, you need to configure OAuth connectivity to authenticate.

    • Set AuthScheme to OAuthClient.
    • Register an application with the service to obtain the APIKey, OAuthClientId and OAuthClientSecret.

      For more information on creating an OAuth application, refer to the Help documentation.

    Automatic OAuth

    After setting the following, you are ready to connect:

      APIKey: The Application key in your app settings. OAuthClientId: The OAuth Client Id in your app settings. OAuthClientSecret: The OAuth Secret in your app settings.

    When you connect, the provider automatically completes the OAuth process:

    1. The provider obtains an access token from SAP Ariba and uses it to request data.
    2. The provider refreshes the access token automatically when it expires.
    3. The OAuth values are saved in memory relative to the location specified in OAuthSettingsLocation.

    Built-in Connection String Designer

    For assistance in constructing the JDBC URL, use the connection string designer built into the SAP Ariba Procurement JDBC Driver. Either double-click the JAR file or execute the jar file from the command-line.

    java -jar cdata.jdbc.saparibaprocurement.jar

    Fill in the connection properties and copy the connection string to the clipboard.

    A typical JDBC URL is below:

Build the JDBC Foreign Data Wrapper

The Foreign Data Wrapper can be installed as an extension to PostgreSQL, without recompiling PostgreSQL. The jdbc2_fdw extension is used as an example (downloadable here).

  1. Add a symlink from the shared object for your version of the JRE to /usr/lib/libjvm.so. For example: ln -s /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/lib/amd64/server/libjvm.so /usr/lib/libjvm.so
  2. Start the build: make install USE_PGXS=1

Query SAP Ariba Procurement Data as a PostgreSQL Database

After you have installed the extension, follow the steps below to start executing queries to SAP Ariba Procurement data:

  1. Log into your database.
  2. Load the extension for the database: CREATE EXTENSION jdbc2_fdw;
  3. Create a server object for SAP Ariba Procurement: CREATE SERVER SAPAribaProcurement FOREIGN DATA WRAPPER jdbc2_fdw OPTIONS ( drivername 'cdata.jdbc.saparibaprocurement.SAPAribaProcurementDriver', url 'jdbc:saparibaprocurement:ANID=AN02000000280;API=PurchaseOrdersBuyerAPI-V1;APIKey=wWVLn7WTAXrIRMAzZ6VnuEj7Ekot5jnU;AuthScheme=OAuthClient;InitiateOAuth=GETANDREFRESH', querytimeout '15', jarfile '/home/MyUser/CData/CData\ JDBC\ Driver\ for\ Salesforce MyDriverEdition/lib/cdata.jdbc.saparibaprocurement.jar');
  4. Create a user mapping for the username and password of a user known to the MySQL daemon. CREATE USER MAPPING for postgres SERVER SAPAribaProcurement OPTIONS ( username 'admin', password 'test');
  5. Create a foreign table in your local database: postgres=# CREATE FOREIGN TABLE orders ( orders_id text, orders_DocumentNumber text, orders_Revision numeric) SERVER SAPAribaProcurement OPTIONS ( table_name 'orders');
You can now execute SELECT commands to SAP Ariba Procurement: postgres=# SELECT * FROM orders;
