Replicate Multiple Todoist Accounts


Replicate multiple Todoist accounts to one or many databases.

CData Sync for Todoist is a stand-alone application that provides solutions for a variety of replication scenarios such as replicating sandbox and production instances into your database. Both Sync for Windows and Sync for Java include a command-line interface (CLI) that makes it easy to manage multiple Todoist connections. In this article we show how to use the CLI to replicate multiple Todoist accounts.

Configure Todoist Connections

You can save connection and email notification settings in an XML configuration file. To replicate multiple Todoist accounts, use multiple configuration files. Below is an example configuration to replicate Todoist to SQLite:

Start by setting the Profile connection property to the location of the Todoist Profile on disk (e.g. C:\profiles\Todoist.apip). Next, set the ProfileSettings connection property to the connection string for Todoist (see below).

To authenticate to Todoist, and connect to your own data or to allow other users to connect to their data, you can use the OAuth standard.

First, you will need to register an OAuth application with Todoist. To do so, go to App Management Console, create a new application and configure a valid OAuth redirect URL. Your Oauth application will be assigned a client id and a client secret.

After setting the following connection properties, you are ready to connect:

  • AuthScheme: Set this to OAuth.
  • InitiateOAuth: Set this to GETANDREFRESH. You can use InitiateOAuth to manage the process to obtain the OAuthAccessToken.
  • OAuthClientId: Set this to the client_id that is specified in you app settings.
  • OAuthClientSecret: Set this to the client_secret that is specified in you app settings.
  • CallbackURL: Set this to the Redirect URI that is specified in your app settings

Configure Queries for Each Todoist Instance

Sync enables you to control replication with standard SQL. The REPLICATE statement is a high-level command that caches and maintains a table in your database. You can define any SELECT query supported by the Todoist API. The statement below caches and incrementally updates a table of Todoist data:

REPLICATE Tasks;

You can specify a file containing the replication queries you want to use to update a particular database. Separate replication statements with semicolons. The following options are useful if you are replicating multiple Todoist accounts into the same database:

You can use a different table prefix in the REPLICATE SELECT statement:

REPLICATE PROD_Tasks SELECT * FROM Tasks

Alternatively, you can use a different schema:

REPLICATE PROD.Tasks SELECT * FROM Tasks

Run Sync

After you have configured the connection strings and replication queries, you can run Sync with the following command-line options:
