New in Connect AI: Understand Documents as Data with AI

by Billy Allocca | December 16, 2025

We're excited to announce a significant enhancement to CData Connect AI's Google Drive connector. AI can now interact with and understand documents and files. For the first time, AI assistants and agents can now read, analyze, and edit documents directly through MCP, treating files as queryable data rather than opaque downloads.

Extracting business context from documents

Until now, enabling users to work with documents in AI workflows meant one of two approaches: build complex RAG pipelines to chunk, embed, and retrieve document content, or require users to download files manually and process them separately. Both approaches add friction, latency, and architectural complexity to what should be straightforward: asking AI to work with your documents.

With this enhancement, Connect AI's Google Drive connector enables AI to interact with documents and spreadsheets as native data sources. AI assistants can now read a proposal, analyze a whitepaper, extract key figures from a report, or directly edit document content through natural conversation in real time.

AI workflows with key context from documents

The new capability is already powering use cases that were previously impractical or required significant engineering investment.

Conversational document analysis. Ask AI agents to summarize a contract, compare two versions of a proposal, or extract action items from meeting notes stored in Drive. The AI reads the document content directly and responds with insights—no preprocessing required.

Document editing through natural language. Beyond reading, AI agents can now edit documents directly. Update a report with new figures, revise language in a proposal, or append new sections through conversation.

Unified data and document workflows. Combine document content with structured data from other enterprise systems. AI agents pull customer data from Salesforce, reference relevant contracts in Drive, and synthesize insights across both in a single MCP workflow.

Continuing to innovate MCP connectivity at CData

This enhancement reflects our continued investment in making Connect AI the most capable MCP platform for enterprise data. The same deep connector knowledge that powers MCP connectivity across 350+ data sources now extends to how AI interacts with your documents.

Whether you're building conversational AI for business users who need quick answers from their files or deploying autonomous agents that need to read and act on document content, Connect AI delivers the document intelligence your AI needs without pipeline complexity.
