Replicate Multiple NASA Accounts via the CData Sync CLI
CData Sync for NASA is a stand-alone application that provides solutions for a variety of replication scenarios such as replicating sandbox and production instances into your database. Both Sync for Windows and Sync for Java include a command-line interface (CLI) that makes it easy to manage multiple NASA connections. In this article we show how to use the CLI to replicate multiple NASA accounts.
Configure NASA Connections
You can save connection and email notification settings in an XML configuration file. To replicate multiple NASA accounts, use multiple configuration files. Below is an example configuration to replicate NASA to SQLite:

Using API Key Authentication
Most NASA API endpoints (APOD, NeoWS, DONKI, TechTransfer) require a NASA API key. Register for a free key at https://api.nasa.gov. The default DEMO_KEY provides limited access (30 requests/hour, 50 requests/day); a registered key allows 1,000 requests/hour.
The following endpoints do not require an API key and work without authentication: EONET (Earth Observatory Natural Event Tracker), EPIC (Earth Polychromatic Imaging Camera), NASA Image and Video Library, and TechPort.
After obtaining your API key, set the following connection properties:
- AuthScheme: Set this to APIKey.
- APIKey: Set this to your NASA API key. Use DEMO_KEY for limited testing.

Connecting to NASA
Once the authentication is configured, you can connect to NASA and query data from any of the available tables such as AstronomyPictureOfDay, NearEarthObjectFeed, EonetEvents, and NasaImageLibrary.
Configure Queries for Each NASA Instance
Sync enables you to control replication with standard SQL. The REPLICATE statement is a high-level command that caches and maintains a table in your database. You can define any SELECT query supported by the NASA API. The statement below caches and incrementally updates a table of NASA data:
REPLICATE AstronomyPictureOfDay;
You can specify a file containing the replication queries you want to use to update a particular database. Separate replication statements with semicolons. The following options are useful if you are replicating multiple NASA accounts into the same database:
You can use a different table prefix in the REPLICATE SELECT statement:
REPLICATE PROD_AstronomyPictureOfDay SELECT * FROM AstronomyPictureOfDay
Alternatively, you can use a different schema:

Run Sync
After you have configured the connection strings and replication queries, you can run Sync with the following command-line options:
