Are you in search of a quick and easy way to access Short.io data from PowerShell? This article demonstrates how to utilize the Short.io Cmdlets for tasks like connecting to Short.io data, automating operations, downloading data, and more.

The CData API Driver for ADO.NET is a standard ADO.NET Provider that make it easy to accomplish data cleansing, normalization, backup, and other integration tasks by enabling real-time access to Short.io.

ADO.NET Provider

The ADO.NET Provider provides a SQL interface for Short.io; this tutorial shows how to use the Provider to retrieve Short.io data.

Once you have acquired the necessary connection properties, accessing Short.io data in PowerShell can be enabled in three steps.

Using API Key Authentication

Short.io uses API Key authentication. To obtain your API key:

  1. Log in to your Short.io account
  2. Navigate to Settings > Integrations & API > API
  3. Click Create API Key and copy your API key

After obtaining the API key, you are ready to connect:

  • AuthScheme: Set this to APIKey.
  • APIKey: Set this to your Short.io API key obtained from Settings > Integrations & API > API.

Example connection string:

Profile=C:\profiles\ShortIo.apip;AuthScheme=APIKey;ProfileSettings='APIKey=your_api_key';

Available Tables

The Short.io profile provides access to the following tables:

  • Domains - Short.io domains associated with the authenticated account
  • Links - Short links for a domain
  • LinkExpand - Expand a short link by domain and path
  • LinksByOriginalUrl - Retrieve multiple short links matching a given original destination URL
  • Folders - Link folders within a specific domain
  • LinkPermissions - Permission records for a specific link within a domain
  • CountryTargeting - Country-based redirect targeting rules for a specific short link
  • RegionTargeting - Region-based redirect targeting rules for a specific short link
  • Regions - List of available regions/states for a given country code
  • DomainStatistics - Aggregated click and traffic statistics for a Short.io domain
  • LinkStatistics - Aggregated click and traffic statistics for a specific Short.io link
  1. Load the provider's assembly:

    [Reflection.Assembly]::LoadFile("C:\Program Files\CData\CData API Driver for ADO.NET\lib\System.Data.CData.API.dll")

  2. Connect to Short.io:

    $conn= New-Object System.Data.CData.API.APIConnection("Profile=C:\profiles\ShortIo.apip;AuthScheme=APIKey;ProfileSettings='APIKey=your_api_key';")
    $conn.Open()

  3. Instantiate the APIDataAdapter, execute an SQL query, and output the results:

    $sql="SELECT ,  from Domains"

    $da= New-Object System.Data.CData.API.APIDataAdapter($sql, $conn)
    $dt= New-Object System.Data.DataTable
    $da.Fill($dt)

    $dt.Rows | foreach {
    	Write-Host $_. $_.
    }
