How to Connect DBeaver to Talkdesk via a JDBC Driver
The CData JDBC Driver for Talkdesk implements JDBC standards that enable third-party tools to interoperate, from wizards in IDEs to business intelligence tools. This article shows how to connect to Talkdesk data with wizards in DBeaver and browse data in the DBeaver GUI.
Create a JDBC Data Source for Talkdesk Data
Follow the steps below to load the driver JAR in DBeaver.
- Open the DBeaver application and, in the "Database" menu, select the "Driver Manager" option. Click "New" to open the "Create new driver" form.
- In the Settings tab:
- Set Driver Name to a user-friendly name for the driver (e.g. CData JDBC Driver for Talkdesk).
- Set Class Name to the class name for the JDBC driver: cdata.jdbc.talkdesk.TalkdeskDriver.
- Set URL Template to jdbc:talkdesk:.
- In the Libraries tab, click "Add File," navigate to the "lib" folder in the installation directory (C:\Program Files\CData\CData JDBC Driver for Talkdesk XXXX\) and select the JAR file (cdata.jdbc.Talkdesk.jar).
Create a Connection to Talkdesk Data
Follow the steps below to add credentials and other required connection properties.
- In the "Database" menu, click "New Database Connection."
- In the "Connect to a database" wizard that results, select the driver you just created (e.g. CData JDBC Driver for Talkdesk) and click "Next >."
- On the Main tab of the configuration wizard, set the JDBC URL, using the required connection properties:
Talkdesk uses the OAuth 2.0 Client Credentials grant. There is no browser-based authorization step and no callback URL.
Set the following connection properties:
- AccountName: The name of your Talkdesk account.
- Region: The region where your Talkdesk instance is deployed. Supported values are US (default), EU, CA, AU, UK, and FedRamp.
- OAuthClientId: The Client Id assigned when you registered your custom OAuth application.
- OAuthClientSecret: The Client Secret assigned to your custom OAuth application.
Creating a Custom OAuth Application
- Log in to your Talkdesk account and select OAuth Clients from the navigation menu.
- Click Create OAuth Client and give the client a descriptive name.
- Set Grant Type to Client Credentials.
- Click Add scopes and select the scopes for the data you want to access.
- Click Create and copy the Client Id and Client Secret.
When you connect, the driver automatically requests an access token from Talkdesk, caches it, and refreshes it when it expires. Make sure the scopes selected for the application match the views you plan to query, or the token request can fail.
Built-in Connection String Designer
For assistance in constructing the JDBC URL, use the connection string designer built into the Talkdesk JDBC Driver. Either double-click the JAR file or execute the jar file from the command-line.
java -jar cdata.jdbc.talkdesk.jarFill in the connection properties and copy the connection string to the clipboard.
Below is a typical connection string:
jdbc:talkdesk:AccountName=myAccount;Region=US;OAuthClientId=myClientId;OAuthClientSecret=myClientSecret;
- Click "Test Connection ..." to ensure you have configured the connection properly.
- Click "Finish."
Query Talkdesk Data
You can now query information from the tables exposed by the connection: Right-click a Table and then click View Table. The data is available on the Data tab.
