This article demonstrates how to use the CData ODBC Driver for ServiceDesk Plus to connect to ServiceDesk Plus data and execute queries in PowerBuilder.

The CData ODBC Driver for ServiceDesk Plus can be used from any platform or development technology that supports ODBC, including PowerBuilder. This article shows how to connect to ServiceDesk Plus data and execute queries from the Database Painter and controls such as the DataWindow.

Connect to ServiceDesk Plus as an ODBC Data Source

If you have not already, first specify connection properties in an ODBC DSN (data source name). This is the last step of the driver installation. You can use the Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator to create and configure ODBC DSNs.

Using OAuth Authentication

ServiceDeskPlus uses Zoho OAuth 2.0 for secure authentication. To set up OAuth access:

  1. Register your application in the Zoho Developer Console at https://api-console.zoho.com
  2. Configure your redirect URI to match your application setup
  3. Note your Client ID and Client Secret from the application settings

After setting the following connection properties, you are ready to connect:

  • AuthScheme: Set this to OAuth.
  • OAuthClientId: Set this to your Zoho application Client ID.
  • OAuthClientSecret: Set this to your Zoho application Client Secret.
  • Scope: Set this to the required ServiceDeskPlus permissions (default includes read access to requests, problems, assets, and projects).
  • Domain: Set this to your ServiceDeskPlus domain
  • Portal: Set this to your ServiceDeskPlus portal

Example Connection String

Profile=C:\profiles\ServiceDeskPlus.apip;ProfileSettings="Portal=itdesk;Domain=.in;Scope=SDPOnDemand.requests.READ SDPOnDemand.problems.READ SDPOnDemand.assets.READ SDPOnDemand.projects.READ";AuthScheme=OAuth;OAuthClientId=your_client_id;OAuthClientSecret=your_client_secret;

Create a Profile for the ODBC Driver for ServiceDesk Plus

Follow the steps below to use the Database Painter tool to create a database profile based on an ODBC DSN (data source name) for ServiceDesk Plus. In the Database Painter, you can use wizards and the UI to work with ServiceDesk Plus data.

  1. In PowerBuilder, click Tools -> Database Painter.
  2. In the Objects window in the Database Painter, right-click the ODBC node and click New Profile.
  3. On the Connection tab, enter a name for the profile and select the ServiceDesk Plus DSN in the Data Source menu.
  4. To view and modify a table, right-click a table and then click Edit Data -> Grid.

Using ServiceDesk Plus Data with PowerBuilder Controls

You can use standard PowerBuilder objects to connect to ODBC data sources and execute queries. The following example shows how to retrieve ServiceDesk Plus data into a DataWindow. You can add the following code to the open method:

SQLCA.DBMS = "ODBC"
SQLCA.DBParm = "ConnectString='DSN=CData API Source'"
CONNECT USING SQLCA;
dw_announcementcomments.SetTransObject(SQLCA);
dw_announcementcomments.Retrieve();
