Overview

CData is deprecating Code Assist MCP. The replacement depends on your use case: Connect AI for AI access to data at runtime, or CData CLI for AI-assisted coding workflows that do not require data access at runtime.

Existing customers will be supported through the end of their current contract term, or August 2027, whichever comes first. Code Assist MCP will not be sold as a new license going forward.

What Is Changing

Code Assist MCP was a local, stdio-based MCP server that allowed AI coding assistants and AI chat tools to discover schemas and query data sources through the Model Context Protocol. This functionality has evolved into two more capable products:

What Is CData CLI?

CData CLI is CData's command-line interface for data connectivity. Rather than routing through MCP, it connects directly to CData Drivers, making it faster to set up and a natural fit for terminal-based AI coding workflows. Key advantages over Code Assist MCP:

One-command install on Windows, Mac, or Linux, with automatic driver discovery and download from within the CLI.
Works with any AI coding tool out of the box, including Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, and others, with no per-tool integration required.
A single natural-language prompt drives the full workflow: finding and downloading the right driver, building connections, writing queries, and generating validated application code.
