Explore the 2024.3 Update for CData Drivers and Connectors

2024.3 Update

The latest CData Driver and Connector update (2024.3) continues CData's mission to add connectivity the best and broadest connectivity solutions in the market. While this release doesn't see any new data sources, there is a notable change in our Shopify integration (due to Shopify's pending deprecation of their REST API) and many feature enhancements.

Breaking change: Shopify connectors use GraphQL by default

The supported API version for CData’s Shopify drivers has been updated to API 2024-07, covering both GraphQL 2024-07 and REST 2024-07. By default, the schema now uses Shopify GraphQL 2024-07, as Shopify designated their REST API as "legacy" as of October 1, 2024. Users can continue to access the Shopify REST API by setting the Schema connection property to "REST-2024-07." Shopify has not yet announced an official deprecation date.

To streamline Shopify analytics and integration workflows, CData models GraphQL data as tables and views.

Key enhancements

Seamless access to documentation from the ODBC and Power BI DSN configuration window

Starting with release 2024.3, users can now access the CData documentation directly from the DSN configuration window in ODBC drivers and Power BI connectors. Each connection property includes a direct link to the corresponding documentation page, allowing users to quickly access details such as possible values and default settings. While previous versions provided brief property descriptions within the DSN configuration window, this enhancement streamlines troubleshooting and setup by enabling instant access to comprehensive documentation.

Tableau-integrated Azure AD (OAuth) for Microsoft services

Accessing Microsoft services from Tableau is now more seamless than ever! CData Tableau Connectors now support Tableau-integrated Azure AD for multiple Microsoft data sources, eliminating the need for users to create an OAuth application manually. Instead, users can simply log in with their Microsoft account through a browser and grant access from Tableau.

Tableau Integrated Azure AD

This feature is particularly beneficial for organizations using both Tableau Server and Tableau Desktop, as it enables credential sharing between the two. Tableau-integrated Azure AD is now supported for the following data sources:

  • Azure AD
  • Azure Data Lake Storage
  • Bing Ads
  • Exchange
  • FHIR
  • Planner
  • Teams
  • Office 365
  • OneDrive
  • OneNote
  • Power BI XMLA
  • MySQL
  • PostgreSQL

Salesforce drivers now support parallel download with Bulk API 2.0

CData Drivers for Salesforce can now leverage parallel downloads when Bulk API 2.0 is enabled. Salesforce’s Bulk API 2.0 is designed for asynchronous processing of large query results (2,000 records or more), optimizing performance for high-volume data operations.

With Salesforce’s Winter '25 release, the parallel download feature is now generally available. By distributing the download process across multiple streams, this enhancement significantly reduces the time required to retrieve large datasets, improving overall efficiency.
