EDI 240

An EDI 240 is a type of X12 EDI document called a Motor Carrier Package Status. It is exchanged between logistics providers and shipment carriers (e.g., FedEx, USPS) to provide updates on the status of shipped goods.

It is similar to an EDI 214 (Transportation Carrier Shipment Status), but while EDI 214 documents are sent in response to major shipping events, an EDI 240 can be used as a query-response for logistics providers to directly ask about shipment status. The EDI 240 is sent as part of a larger conversation between logistics providers and carriers, especially if a shipment update was expected and not yet received.
