The HCL Domino ODBC Driver is a powerful tool that allows you to connect with live data from HCL Domino, directly from any applications that support ODBC connectivity.

Access HCL Domino data like you would a database - read, write, and update HCL Domino FALSE, etc. through a standard ODBC Driver interface.

Connect to HCL Domino Data in DBeaver

Use the CData ODBC Driver to connect to HCL Domino data in DBeaver.

The CData ODBC Driver for HCL Domino enables access to live data from HCL Domino under the ODBC standard, allowing you work with HCL Domino data in a wide variety of BI, reporting, and ETL tools and directly, using familiar SQL queries. This article shows how to manage HCL Domino data with visual tools in DBeaver like the query browser.

The CData ODBC drivers offer unmatched performance for interacting with live HCL Domino data in DBeaver due to optimized data processing built into the driver. When you issue complex SQL queries from DBeaver to HCL Domino, the driver pushes supported SQL operations, like filters and aggregations, directly to HCL Domino and utilizes the embedded SQL engine to process unsupported operations (often SQL functions and JOIN operations) client-side. With built-in dynamic metadata querying, you can manage and analyze HCL Domino data.

Connect to HCL Domino

If you have not already done so, provide values for the required connection properties in the data source name (DSN). You can configure the DSN using the Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator. This is also the last step of the driver installation. See the "Getting Started" chapter in the Help documentation for a guide to using the Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator to create and configure a DSN.

Prerequisites

The connector requires the Proton component to be installed. Normally, Proton is distributed as part of the AppDev pack. See the HCL documentation for instructions on acquiring and installing Proton or the AppDev pack.

Once the Proton service is installed and running, you will also need to create a user account and download its Internet certificate. This certificate can be used to set the connector certificate connection properties.

Authenticating to Domino

  • Server: The name or IP address of the server running Domino with the Proton service.
  • Port: The port number that the Proton service is listening on.
  • Database: The name of the database file, including the .nsf extension.
  • SSLClientCertType: This must match the format of the certificate file. Typically this will be either PEMKEY_FILE for .pem certificates or PFXFILE for .pfx certificates.
  • SSLClientCert: The path to the certificate file.
  • SSLServerCert: This can be set to (*) if you trust the server. This is usually the case, but if you want to perform SSL validation, you may provide a certificate or thumbprint instead. See the documentation for SSLServerCert for details.

Additional Server Configuration

The connector supports querying Domino views if any are defined. Before views can be queried by the connector they must be registered with the design catalog.

Please refer to the Catalog Administration section of the AppDev pack documentation for details on how to do this.

Finally, set the "Map To WVarchar connection property to False in the DSN Configuration window for the driver. This configuration will allow string types to be mapped to SQL_VARCHAR and prevent SQL_WVARCHAR types from being displayed as NULL.

Connecting to the HCL Domino ODBC Data Source in DBeaver

  1. Open the DBeaver application and in the Database menu, select the New Database Connection option.
  2. In the 'Connect to a database' window, select ODBC and click Next.
  3. In the Database/Schema field, enter the DSN name (CData HCL Domino Source by default). It will be automatically added to the JDBC URL as well.
  4. Click the Test Connection button. You should receive a 'Connected' message after DBeaver has detected the DSN, along with details about the driver if the connection is successful.

Query HCL Domino Data

You can now query information from the tables exposed by the data source connection. You can expand the database structure in order to view all the tables. You can retrieve the table's data by right-clicking on a table name and selecting View data. The data will then be available in the Data tab.
