Dynamics NAV ADO.NET Provider

Rapidly create and deploy powerful .NET applications that integrate with Dynamics NAV data including Items, Sales Orders, Purchase Orders, and more!

Use the CData ADO.NET Provider for Dynamics NAV with the DevExpress Windows Forms and Web controls to provide Dynamics NAV data to a chart.

The CData ADO.NET Provider for Dynamics NAV implements standard ADO.NET data access components that can be used with third-party controls. The standard ADO.NET process for databinding can be followed to enable bidirectional access to live data from UI controls. In this article we show how to use the CData components to databind to the DevExpress Windows Forms and Web controls; you will databind to a chart that displays current data.

Before you can connect, OData Services will need to be enabled on the server. Once OData Services are enabled, you will be able to query any Services that are published on the server.

The User and Password properties, under the Authentication section, must be set to valid Dynamics NAV user credentials. In addition, you will need to specify a URL to a valid Dynamics NAV server organization root and a ServerInstance. If there is not a Service Default Company for the server, you will need to set the Company as well.

Windows Forms Controls

The code below shows how to populate a DevExpress chart with Dynamics NAV data. The DynamicsNAVDataAdapter binds to the Series property of the chart control. The Diagram property of the control defines the x- and y-axes as the column names.

using (DynamicsNAVConnection connection = new DynamicsNAVConnection( "http://myserver:7048;User=myserver\Administrator;Password=admin;ServerInstance=DYNAMICSNAV71;")) { DynamicsNAVDataAdapter dataAdapter = new DynamicsNAVDataAdapter( "SELECT Name, Prices_Including_VAT FROM Customer", connection); DataTable table = new DataTable(); dataAdapter.Fill(table); DevExpress.XtraCharts.Series series = new DevExpress.XtraCharts.Series(); chartControl1.Series.Add(series); series.DataSource = table; series.ValueDataMembers.AddRange(new string[] { "Prices_Including_VAT" }); series.ArgumentScaleType = DevExpress.XtraCharts.ScaleType.Qualitative; series.ArgumentDataMember = "Name"; series.ValueScaleType = DevExpress.XtraCharts.ScaleType.Numerical; chartControl1.Legend.Visibility = DevExpress.Utils.DefaultBoolean.False; ((DevExpress.XtraCharts.SideBySideBarSeriesView)series.View).ColorEach = true; }

Web Controls

The code below shows how to populate a DevExpress Web control with Dynamics NAV data. The DynamicsNAVDataAdapter binds to the Series property of the chart; the Diagram property defines the x- and y-axes as the column names.

using DevExpress.XtraCharts; using (DynamicsNAVConnection connection = new DynamicsNAVConnection( "http://myserver:7048;User=myserver\Administrator;Password=admin;ServerInstance=DYNAMICSNAV71;")) { DynamicsNAVDataAdapter DynamicsNAVDataAdapter1 = new DynamicsNAVDataAdapter("SELECT Name, Prices_Including_VAT FROM Customer", connection); DataTable table = new DataTable(); DynamicsNAVDataAdapter1.Fill(table); DevExpress.XtraCharts.Series series = new Series("Series1", ViewType.Bar); WebChartControl1.Series.Add(series); series.DataSource = table; series.ValueDataMembers.AddRange(new string[] { "Prices_Including_VAT" }); series.ArgumentScaleType = ScaleType.Qualitative; series.ArgumentDataMember = "Name"; series.ValueScaleType = ScaleType.Numerical; ((DevExpress.XtraCharts.SideBySideBarSeriesView)series.View).ColorEach = true; }
