We are proud to share our inclusion in the 2024 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Integration Tools. We believe this recognition reflects the differentiated business outcomes CData delivers to our customers.
Get the Report →Connect to OData Services in RapidMiner
Integrate OData services with standard components and data source configuration wizards in RapidMiner Studio.
This article shows how you can easily integrate the CData JDBC driver for OData into your processes in RapidMiner. This article uses the CData JDBC Driver for OData to transfer OData services to a process in RapidMiner.
About OData Data Integration
CData simplifies access and integration of live OData services data. Our customers leverage CData connectivity to:
- Access OData versions 2.0, 3.0, and 4.0, working with legacy services and the latest features and capabilities.
- Leverage advanced query options, including $filter, $select, and $expand, enhancing data retrieval from 3rd party tools.
- Use Server-side execution of aggregation and grouping to minimize data transfer and boost performance.
- Authenticate securely using a variety of schemes, including Azure AD, digest, negotiate, NTLM, OAuth, and more means secure authentication with every connection.
- Use SQL stored procedures to manage OData service entities - listing, creating, and removing associations between entities.
Customers use CData's solutions to regularly integrate their OData services with preferred tools, such as Power BI, MicroStrategy, or Tableau, and to replicate data from OData services to their databases or data warehouses.
Getting Started
Connect to OData in RapidMiner as a JDBC Data Source
You can follow the procedure below to establish a JDBC connection to OData:
- Add a new database driver for OData: Click Connections -> Manage Database Drivers.
- In the resulting wizard, click the Add button and enter a name for the connection.
- Enter the prefix for the JDBC URL:
jdbc:odata:
- Enter the path to the cdata.jdbc.odata.jar file, located in the lib subfolder of the installation directory.
- Enter the driver class:
cdata.jdbc.odata.ODataDriver
- Create a new OData connection: Click Connections -> Manage Database Connections.
- Enter a name for your connection.
- For Database System, select the OData driver you configured previously.
- Enter your connection string in the Host box.
The User and Password properties, under the Authentication section, must be set to valid OData user credentials. In addition, you will need to specify a URL to a valid OData server organization root or OData services file.
Built-in Connection String Designer
For assistance in constructing the JDBC URL, use the connection string designer built into the OData JDBC Driver. Either double-click the JAR file or execute the jar file from the command-line.
java -jar cdata.jdbc.odata.jar
Fill in the connection properties and copy the connection string to the clipboard.
A typical connection string is below:
URL=http://services.odata.org/V4/Northwind/Northwind.svc;UseIdUrl=True;OData Version=4.0;Data Format=ATOM;
- Enter your username and password if necessary.
You can now use your OData connection with the various RapidMiner operators in your process. To retrieve OData services, drag the Retrieve operator from the Operators view. With the Retrieve operator selected, you can then define which table to retrieve in the Parameters view by clicking the folder icon next to the "repository entry." In the resulting Repository Browser, you can expand your connection node to select the desired example set.
Finally, wire the output to the Retrieve process to a result, and run the process to see the OData services.
