Connect to Sage 50 UK Data in RapidMiner

This article shows how you can easily integrate the CData JDBC driver for Sage 50 UK into your processes in RapidMiner. This article uses the CData JDBC Driver for Sage 50 UK to transfer Sage 50 UK data to a process in RapidMiner.

Connect to Sage 50 UK in RapidMiner as a JDBC Data Source

You can follow the procedure below to establish a JDBC connection to Sage 50 UK:

1. Add a new database driver for Sage 50 UK: Click Connections -> Manage Database Drivers.
2. In the resulting wizard, click the Add button and enter a name for the connection.
3. Enter the prefix for the JDBC URL: jdbc:sage50uk:
4. Enter the path to the cdata.jdbc.sage50uk.jar file, located in the lib subfolder of the installation directory.
5. Enter the driver class: cdata.jdbc.sage50uk.Sage50UKDriver
6. Create a new Sage 50 UK connection: Click Connections -> Manage Database Connections.
7. Enter a name for your connection.
8. For Database System, select the Sage 50 UK driver you configured previously.
9. Enter your connection string in the Host box.

   Note: Only Sage 50 UK 2012 and above are supported.

   The User and Password properties, under the Connection section, must be set to valid Sage 50 UK user credentials. These values will be the same used to log in to the Sage 50 UK software.

   Additionally, the URL property, under the Connection section, will need to be set to the address of the company dataset desired. To obtain the address, do the following:

   1. If you have not already done so, open the Sage 50 UK software.
   2. Click Tools -> Internet Options.
   3. Select the SData Settings tab.
   4. Click the Details button next to Sage 50 Accounts. A window is displayed containing a list of company names along with the address to their corresponding datasets.
   5. Set the URL property to the value in the address field next to the company desired.

   Built-in Connection String Designer

   For assistance in constructing the JDBC URL, use the connection string designer built into the Sage 50 UK JDBC Driver. Either double-click the JAR file or execute the jar file from the command-line.

   java -jar cdata.jdbc.sage50uk.jar

   Fill in the connection properties and copy the connection string to the clipboard.

   A typical connection string is below:

   URL=http://your-server:5493/sdata/accounts50/GCRM/your-address;User=Manager;
10. Enter your username and password if necessary.

You can now use your Sage 50 UK connection with the various RapidMiner operators in your process. To retrieve Sage 50 UK data, drag the Retrieve operator from the Operators view. With the Retrieve operator selected, you can then define which table to retrieve in the Parameters view by clicking the folder icon next to the "repository entry." In the resulting Repository Browser, you can expand your connection node to select the desired example set.

Finally, wire the output to the Retrieve process to a result, and run the process to see the Sage 50 UK data.
