Build ASP.NET Core Blazor C# apps that integrate with real-time Sage 50 UK data using standard SQL.
Blazor is a framework for developing modern, client-side web UIs using .NET technology. Instead of coding in JavaScript, developers can use the familiar C# language and .NET libraries to build app UIs.
The CData ADO.NET Provider for Sage 50 UK can be used with standard ADO.NET interfaces, such as LINQ and Entity Framework, to interact with live Sage 50 UK data. Since Blazor supports .NET Core, developers can use CData ADO.NET Providers in Blazor apps. In this article, we will guide you to build a simple Blazor app that talks to Sage 50 UK using standard SQL queries.
Install the CData ADO.NET Provider for Sage 50 UK
CData ADO.NET Providers allow users to access Sage 50 UK just like they would access SQL Server, using simple SQL queries.
Install the Sage 50 UK ADO.NET Data Provider from the CData website or from NuGet. Search NuGet for "Sage 50 UK ADO.NET Data Provider."
Create a Sage 50 UK-Connected Blazor App
Start by creating a Blazor project that references the CData ADO.NET Provider for Sage 50 UK
- Create a Blazor project on Visual Studio.
- From the Solution Explorer, right click Dependencies, then click Add Project Reference.
- In the Reference Manager, click the Browse button, and choose the .dll file of the installed ADO.NET Provider (e.g. System.Data.CData.Sage50UK.dll, typically located at C:\Program Files\CData\CData ADO.NET Provider for Sage 50 UK\lib etstandard2.0).
SELECT Sage 50 UK Data from the Blazor App
- Open the Index.razor file from the Project page.
- In a Sage50UKConnection object, set the connection string:
Note: Only Sage 50 UK 2012 and above are supported.
The User and Password properties, under the Connection section, must be set to valid Sage 50 UK user credentials. These values will be the same used to log in to the Sage 50 UK software.
Additionally, the URL property, under the Connection section, will need to be set to the address of the company dataset desired. To obtain the address, do the following:
- If you have not already done so, open the Sage 50 UK software.
- Click Tools -> Internet Options.
- Select the SData Settings tab.
- Click the Details button next to Sage 50 Accounts. A window is displayed containing a list of company names along with the address to their corresponding datasets.
- Set the URL property to the value in the address field next to the company desired.
For example: URL=http://your-server:5493/sdata/accounts50/GCRM/your-address;User=Manager;
- The code below creates a simple Blazor app for displaying Sage 50 UK data, using standard SQL to query Sage 50 UK just like SQL Server.
@page "/" @using System.Data; @using System.Data.CData.Sage50UK; <h1>Hello, world!</h1> Welcome to your Data app. <div class="row"> <div class="col-12"> @using (Sage50UKConnection connection = new Sage50UKConnection( "URL=http://your-server:5493/sdata/accounts50/GCRM/your-address;User=Manager;")) { var sql = "SELECT Name, FinanceBalance FROM TradingAccounts"; var results = new DataTable(); Sage50UKDataAdapter dataAdapter = new Sage50UKDataAdapter(sql, connection); dataAdapter.Fill(results); <table class="table table-bordered"> <thead class="thead-light"> <tr> @foreach (DataColumn item in results.Rows[0].Table.Columns) { <th scope="col">@item.ColumnName</th> } </tr> </thead> <tbody> @foreach (DataRow row in results.Rows) { <tr> @foreach (var column in row.ItemArray) { <td>@column.ToString()</td> } </tr> } </tbody> </table> } </div> </div>
- Rebuild and run the project. The ADO.NET Provider renders Sage 50 UK data as an HTML table in the Blazor app.
At this point, you have a Sage 50 UK-connected Blazor app, capable of working with live Sage 50 UK data just like you would work with a SQL Server instance. Download a free, 30-day trial and start working with live Sage 50 UK data in your Blazor apps today.
