CData Connect

Use CData Connect Cloud to create a virtual SQL Server database for FinancialForce data and integrate live FinancialForce data into your Power Automate (Microsoft Flow) tasks.

Power Automate (Microsoft Flow) is an online service that automates events (known as workflows) across the most common apps and services. When paired with CData Connect Cloud, you get instant, cloud-to-cloud access to FinancialForce data for visualizations, dashboards, and more. This article shows how to connect to Connect Cloud from Power Automate and integrate live FinancialForce data into your workflows and tasks.

CData Connect Cloud provides a pure SQL, cloud-to-cloud interface for FinancialForce, allowing you to easily integrate with live FinancialForce data in Power Automate — without replicating the data. CData Connect Cloud looks exactly like a SQL Server database to Power Automate and uses optimized data processing out of the box to push all supported SQL operations (filters, JOINs, etc) directly to FinancialForce, leveraging server-side processing to quickly return FinancialForce data.

Create a Virtual SQL Database for FinancialForce Data

CData Connect Cloud uses a straightforward, point-and-click interface to connect to data sources and generate APIs.

  1. Login to Connect Cloud and click Databases.
  2. Select "FinancialForce" from Available Data Sources.
  3. Enter the necessary authentication properties to connect to FinancialForce.

There are several authentication methods available for connecting to FinancialForce: login credentials, SSO, and OAuth.

Authenticating with a Login and Token

Set the User and Password to your login credentials. Additionally, set the SecurityToken. By default, the SecurityToken is required, but you can make it optional by allowing a range of trusted IP addresses.

    To disable the security token:

    1. Log in to FinancialForce and enter "Network Access" in the Quick Find box in the setup section.
    2. Add your IP address to the list of trusted IP addresses.

    To obtain the security token:

    1. Open the personal information page on FinancialForce.com.
    2. Click the link to reset your security token. The token will be emailed to you.
    3. Specify the security token in the SecurityToken connection property or append it to the Password.

    Authenticating with OAuth

If you do not have access to the user name and password or do not want to require them, use the OAuth user consent flow. See the OAuth section in the Help for an authentication guide.

    Connecting to FinancialForce Sandbox Accounts

Set UseSandbox to true (false by default) to use a FinancialForce sandbox account. Ensure that you specify a sandbox user name in User.

  4. Click Test Database.
  5. Click Privileges -> Add and add the new user (or an existing user) with the appropriate permissions.

Connecting to CData Connect Cloud

To use Connect Cloud to integrate FinancialForce data into your Power Automate tasks, you need a new SQL Server connection:

  1. Log in to Power Automate
  2. Click Data -> Connections -> New connection
  3. Select SQL Server
  4. In the connection wizard:

    • Set Authentication Type to "SQL Server Authentication"
    • Set SQL server name to the address of your Connect Cloud instance (myinstance.cdatacloud.net)
    • Set SQL database name to the name of the virtual FinancialForce database you created earlier (like financialforcedb)
    • Set the Username and Password and click Create

Integrating FinancialForce Data into Power Automate Tasks
