Use CData Connect Cloud to create a virtual MySQL Database for FinancialForce data and gain access to live FinancialForce data from your Google Sheets.

Google Sheets is a free, web-based spreadsheet program. When paired with CData Connect Cloud, you can instantly access FinancialForce data from within Google Sheets for data analysis, collaborations, calculations, and more. This article shows how to connect to FinancialForce in your Connect Cloud instance and access live FinancialForce data in Google Sheets.

Create a Virtual MySQL Database for FinancialForce Data

CData Connect Cloud uses a straightforward, point-and-click interface to connect to data sources and generate APIs.

  1. Log into Connect Cloud and click Databases.
  2. Select "FinancialForce" from Available Data Sources.
  3. Enter the necessary authentication properties to connect to FinancialForce.

    There are several authentication methods available for connecting to FinancialForce: login credentials, SSO, and OAuth.

    Authenticating with a Login and Token

    Set the User and Password to your login credentials. Additionally, set the SecurityToken. By default, the SecurityToken is required, but you can make it optional by allowing a range of trusted IP addresses.

    To disable the security token:

    1. Log in to FinancialForce and enter "Network Access" in the Quick Find box in the setup section.
    2. Add your IP address to the list of trusted IP addresses.

    To obtain the security token:

    1. Open the personal information page on FinancialForce.com.
    2. Click the link to reset your security token. The token will be emailed to you.
    3. Specify the security token in the SecurityToken connection property or append it to the Password.

    Authenticating with OAuth

    If you do not have access to the user name and password or do not want to require them, use the OAuth user consent flow. See the OAuth section in the Help for an authentication guide.

    Connecting to FinancialForce Sandbox Accounts

    Set UseSandbox to true (false by default) to use a FinancialForce sandbox account. Ensure that you specify a sandbox user name in User.

  4. Click Test Database.
  5. Click Privileges -> Add and add the new user (or an existing user) with the appropriate permissions.

With the virtual database created, you are ready to connect to FinancialForce data from Google Sheets.

Access Live FinancialForce Data in Google Sheets

The steps below outline connecting to CData Connect Cloud from Google Sheets to access live FinancialForce data.

  1. Log into Google Sheets, create a new sheet (or open an existing one).
  2. Click Add-ons and click Get Add-ons (if you have already installed the Add-on, jump to step 5).
  3. Search for CData Connect Cloud Connector and select the Add-on.
  4. Authorize the Connector.
  5. Back in Google Sheets, click Add-ons and open the CData Connect Cloud Connector.
  6. Use your instance name (myinstance in myinstance.cdatacloud.net), username, and password to connect to your Connect Cloud instance.
  7. Click CREATE to access FinancialForce data through your Connect Cloud instance.
  8. Select a Database (e.g. FinancialForce1) and click Next.
  9. Select a Table (e.g. Account) and Fields (columns), add any sorting, filtering, and limits and click Execute.
